FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: method is applicable to the offshore areas adjacent to the continental slope with an abnormally high concentration of methane in the pore water of the hopper bottoms, and/or the bottomset water layer and/or in places of bubbling methane emission into the water layer. Essence: natural electric field is measured in the area of interest at 6-75 Hz of Schumann resonances frequencies along the isobaths of the continental slope at successively increasing depths below the depth of the transition from the shelf to the continental slope. The depth of installation of the measuring antenna receiver, deeper than which the Schumann resonances are undetectable, is taken to be equal to the maximum depth of the hydrocarbon raw material source.
EFFECT: increase of the accuracy of determining the maximum depth of the hydrocarbon deposit with simplification of methods and measurement scheme.
