SUBSTANCE: configuration of the filter banks with overlapping contains a synthesis cascade and an analysis cascade. The synthesis stage receives the first signal segmented into time blocks and outputs on this basis an intermediate signal to be received by the cascade of analysis, forming the basis for calculating the second signal segmented into time frames. In an embodiment, the synthesis stage is configured to output an approximate value of an intermediate signal in a time block located at L-1 time blocks ahead of its output block, the approximate value being calculated based on any available time blocks of the first signal such that the approximate value contributes to the second signal in the cascade of analysis. The delay is usually reduced by L-1 blocks. Applications include the processing of an audio signal in general and, in particular, a real-to-complex transformation.
