SUBSTANCE: method for protecting motor vehicles against theft and change of identification numbers on them consisting in applying a basic identification number to the vehicle body or frame at a certain angle, depending on the vehicle manufacture date, to a predetermined line in the plane of the surface, on which it is applied. A duplicating identification number is applied, the location of which on the body or frame depends on the vehicle manufacture date.
EFFECT: increasing the vehicle's protection against theft.
