FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: method for starting an internal combustion engine of a hybrid vehicle includes measuring an engine operating parameter to determine the necessity to assist the electric machine to launch the engine crankshaft; switching off the clutch to disconnect the electric motor from the engine; controlling the transmission for disconnecting the electric machine from the driving wheels; the choice of rotatable transmission components used to facilitate starting the engine in accordance with the measured engine performance parameter. Also carried out: switching on the transmission for connecting the rotating components of the transmission with the clutch; operating the electric machine as an electric motor to rotate the transmission components and to achieve a predetermined speed of the engine crankshaft rotation; and switching on one of the clutches, when the electric machine speed reaches the crankshaft rotation speed, to start the engine.
