SUBSTANCE: to prevent tracking when moving over a wireless access point (WAP) network, the wireless device changes the MAC address. The device randomizes some or all of the bits in the MAC address or selects the MAC address from the group of MAC addresses assigned to the device by the device manufacturer. The device can use the MAC addresses with other devices and conduct a check to ensure that there is no active sharing of the MAC address before selecting and using the MAC address.
