SUBSTANCE: weaving machine is proposed, having shedding elements to form a shed from warp threads, and having a device to form a leno edge of a ground thread and two leno threads, whereby the device includes a first guide device for guiding the first needle for a leno thread and the first needle drive for driving the first needle for a leno thread, as well as a second guide device for guiding the second needle for a leno thread, and a second needle drive for driving the second needle for a leno thread, wherein the guide devices and needle drives are mounted on a holder driven by a drive in the longitudinal direction of the needles for a leno thread; it additionally comprises a thread-guiding element having two guide loops extending parallel to the longitudinal direction of the needles for a leno thread, arranged on the thread-guide elements facing opposite to each other. According to the invention, the guide devices are made each in the form of a linear guide, so that the needles for a leno thread can be set in motion in the weft direction of the weaving machine, and wherein the first and the second needle for a leno thread are configured to be actuated through the appropriate coordinated first and second needle drives independently from the other needle for a leno thread in the weft direction of the weaving machine. The drive needles are made in the form of pneumatic, electric motor, or electromagnetic linear drives. Both guides and both drive needles are mounted on a holder, so that the first needle for a leno thread can be set in motion in the first plane and the second needle for Leno threads can be set in motion in the second plane, these two planes passing parallel to each other. The thread-guiding element is located in the area between the shedding elements and two planes of the needles for a leno thread, so a track is formed between the warp threads and the ground threads.
