FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: vacuum plasma multi-layer coating is applied. First, bottom layer of titanium nitride is applied. Then, an intermediate layer of nitride of the titanium and aluminium compound is deposited at a ratio, wt %: titanium 70.0-79.0, aluminium 21.0-30.0. Then the top layer of nitride of the titanium, aluminium and molybdenum compound is deposited at their ratio, wt %: titanium 75.5-82.5, aluminium 14.0-20.0, molybdenum 3.5-4.5. Layers coating is made with three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. First cathode is made of titanium and silicon alloy and arranged in opposition, second cathode is made of titanium and arranged opposite the first one while third cathode is made of chromium and titanium and arranged there between. The lower layer is applied using a third cathode, the intermediate layer using first and third cathodes, and the top layer using all three cathodes.
EFFECT: higher cutting tool efficiency.
