FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: application of multi-layer coating is performed. First, a lower layer of titanium nitride is applied. Then, an intermediate layer of the titanium and silicon nitride compound is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 98.0-98.4, silicon 1.6-2.0. Then, the top layer of the titanium, silicon and aluminium nitride compound is applied at their ratio, wt %: titanium 87.7-91.9, silicon 1.1-1.3, aluminium 7.0-11.0. Application of coating layers is performed with three cathodes located horizontally in one plane, the first one of which consists of titanium and silicon alloy, and the second one consists of titanium and aluminium alloy and is located opposite to the first one, and the third one consists of titanium and is located between them. The lower layer is applied using the third cathode, the intermediate layer - using the first and the third cathodes, and the top layer - using all three cathodes.
EFFECT: increasing the efficiency of the cutting tool.
