SUBSTANCE: each of the multi-component cigarettes comprises several parts having a central axis, and each of which comprises at least one part formed by the filter element and at least one other part formed by the aromatic element, preferably tobacco-based; wherein the assembly machine comprises a combining unit for forming groups of parts, each group comprising at least two different first parts axially aligned with each other and contacting end by end, with the groups of the parts moving perpendicularly to their central axis. The combining unit comprises several structurally identical feeding stations, each for feeding the respective first parts to form the groups of parts; and each feeding station comprises an insertion drum receiving the groups of parts from a preceding feeding station or creates the groups of parts, receives the corresponding first parts, and inserts the respective first parts into the groups of parts.
