FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: tissue thickness compensator is proposed for use with a circular surgical stapler comprising a staple cartridge with a cartridge panel and an abutment member movable relative to the staple cartridge such that the staple-forming surface of the abutment member is opposite the cartridge panel and the tissue-cutting member is pulled axially from the staple cartridge to the abutment member. At that, the tissue thickness compensator comprises a compressible bioabsorbable annular base member and a fastening member. The compressible bioabsorbable annular base member is configured to be held between the staple-forming surface and the cartridge panel. The fastening member protrudes from the compressible base member and is adapted to be attached to the abutment member to hold the compressible base member between the staple-forming surface and the cartridge panel. In the second embodiment, the above-mentioned tissue thickness compensator comprises a fastening member adapted to be connected to the compressible base member. The fastening element comprises a nozzle protruding above the distal end of the abutment member and attached to the compressible base member such that the compressible base member is held near the staple-forming surface. The nozzle is attached with a possibility of movement to the abutment member. The compressible base part has at least one side wall and the nozzle can move from a neutral position in which the nozzle covers the said at least one side wall to a deployed position in which the said at least one side wall remains uncovered. In the third embodiment, the above-mentioned tissue thickness compensator comprises a fastening member adapted to be connected to the compressible base member. The fastening element comprises a deformable edge attached to the compressible base member. In the fourth embodiment, the tissue thickness compensator is designed for use with a circular surgical stapler comprising a stapler head holding a surgical staple cartridge that retains at least one circular row of staples and an abutment member comprising the abutment member body and the abutment member rod, which is releasably attached to the stapler head, and comprises an annular compressible bioabsorbable base member comprising the first annular disc, the second annular disc and an annular set of compressible ribs lying between the first and the second annular disc and attached to them. In the fifth embodiment, the tissue thickness compensator is designed for use with a circular surgical stapling device comprising a stapler head holding a surgical staple cartridge that retains at least one circular row of staples and an abutment member comprising an abutment member body and an abutment member rod, which is detachably attached to the stapler head. The tissue thickness compensator comprises an annular compressible base member, the first plurality of bioabsorbable spokes, and the second plurality of bioabsorbable spokes. The annular compressible base member forms the first annular side and the opposite second annular side. The first set of bioabsorbable spokes protrudes from the first annular side. The second set of bioabsorbable spokes protrudes from the second annular side. In the sixth embodiment, the tissue thickness compensator is designed for use with a circular surgical stapler comprising an elongated rod including a stapler head holding a surgical staple cartridge and an abutment member comprising an abutment member body and an abutment member rod that is detachably attached to the stapler head. The tissue thickness compensator comprises an annular compressible bioabsorbable base member, a fastener and an input device. The fastening member is connected to the compressible base member and is adapted to be engaged with the stapler head to hold the compressible base member between the staple cartridge and the abutment member body. The input device comprises an elongated conductor and a detachable cap on the distal end portion of the elongated conductor. The elongated conductor is configured to hold the elongated rod and the stapler head therein. The elongated conductor comprises a distal end configured to retain the tissue thickness compensator for supporting engagement with the stapler head. The detachable cap can be moved from the closed position to the open position. The stapler head and the tissue thickness compensator can be pulled out from the distal end of the conductor.
EFFECT: inventions provide compensation for various tissue thicknesses clamped in different staples.
