SUBSTANCE: device (10) comprises a body (12) forming a chamber (16) adapted to receive strands of hair (26) therein, a strand of hair is styled when it is placed in the chamber. The chamber has the first opening (24) through which a strand of hair can pass into the chamber. In the chamber (16) there is an elongated element (20). There is a rotating element (34) that is adapted to grip a strand of hair (26) located next to the first hole, to pull a strand of hair through the first hole and into the chamber, and to wind the strand of hair onto the elongated element. The rotation of the rotating member is controlled by the control system that includes a means to detect load applied to the hair strand by the rotating element. If the hair is tangled, the load applied to the hair strand increases and if the load detected by the control system exceeds a predetermined threshold value, the rotating member is stopped and reversed so as to loosen the tension and allow the hair strand to be removed from the device.
