SUBSTANCE: personal care product comprises a non-woven fluid-permeable lining material, surge material having a wearer-facing surface, a fluid impermeable backsheet, and at least one intermediate layer disposed between the backsheet and the surge material. In this personal hygiene item, the surge material comprises ridges and grooves, and apertures disposed within the grooves, wherein at least some of the ridges are treated with a hydrophobic treatment agent, and wherein at least some of the apertures are treated with a hydrophilic treatment agent.
