FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: illustrative method involves obtaining bidimentional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) digital images of a rock sample. The method also includes an iterative analysis of property measurements, collected for all digital images, using parts of a sample of different sizes, to determine the convergence of the distribution of properties as a function of the size of a part of the sample. The method also includes selecting the smallest part of the sample corresponding to the convergence of the property distribution as a standard element of the area or volume for the rock sample.
EFFECT: increase the representativeness of the received data.
