SUBSTANCE: invention relates to selection of agricultural plants. Proposed is a method for estimating frost resistance of winter barley, including processing winter barley seeds with a solution of the active substance and comparative analysis of research results. Investigated material – seed of different varieties of winter barley, differing in the degree of frost resistance, is soaked in the solution of the active substance, which is Trilon B used at a concentration of 3.2×10-3 M/l, and the control material - in distilled water. Further, the seeds are germinated in the dark at a temperature of 22–28 °C for 3–4 days, then a comparative measurement of the root system of the test and control etiolated seedlings is carried out and the degree of frost resistance of winter barley varieties is estimated by the intensity of growth of the root system, more intensively the growth of the root system decreases in comparison with the control, the variety is less frost-resistant.

EFFECT: invention provides a simplified assessment and increased reliability of forecasting of frost resistance of winter barley varieties.
