SUBSTANCE: device contains a variety of mobile communication devices, each of which contains a satellite communication component and a cellular communication component. The cellular communication component is physically separated from the noted satellite communication component, but is able to communicate with it via a short-range wireless communication link. Each of the mobile communication devices has a pair of SIM cards associated with it by means of a switching device located remotely from the noted mobile communication devices. One of the SIM card pairs is located with the mobile communication device, and the other is located remotely from the mobile communication device. The switching device is capable of establishing or initiating the first communication channel through the first network and the second communication channel through the second network to allow simultaneous communication to select one of the noted plurality of mobile devices in the noted first communication channel and the noted second communication channel.
