SUBSTANCE: invention relates to rag of tow (a cigarette filter tow rag) that is used as a material (component) for the manufacture of cigarette filters, and to a method for identifying the propagation way of a tow rag and to a method for preventing or minimizing illegal cigarette production, both of which use the aforementioned tow rag. Cigarette filter tow rag includes a twisted bundle of multiple fibers and a detectable marker for identifying the origin of the tow rag, where the cigarette filter tow rag is impregnated with textile oil, the marker includes one or more compounds, all of one or more marker compounds are compounds, each of which has a boiling point of 100 °C to 450 °C at atmospheric pressure, and the marker compounds are selected from compounds other than textile oil components.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is to provide a material (a component of a cigarette) that prevents or minimizes the illegal production of cigarettes.
