SUBSTANCE: resent invention relates to compositions that enhances the palatability of pet foods designed for companion animals, e. g. dogs and cats, e. g. with renal insufficiency. Taste improving composition for pet food is intended for cats and dogs suffering from kidney failure or kidney disease, while the specified composition comprises protein and phosphorus in a ratio of from 5:1 to 15:1 and from 15 % to 21.5 % of the ash residue. Pet food composition contains from 1 % to 10 % by weight of a taste-improving composition for cats and dogs suffering from kidney failure or kidney disease. Method for improving the taste of a pet food composition comprises the step of treating a pet food composition with administration of a taste improving composition, where a taste improving composition is intended for cats and dogs suffering from kidney failure or kidney disease. Method of treating cats and dogs suffering from kidney failure or kidney disease, method of alleviating symptoms in cats and dogs suffering from kidney failure or kidney disease, and a method for increasing feed intake by cats and dogs suffering from kidney failure or kidney disease includes the step of feeding a companion animal with a pet food composition.
EFFECT: implementation of a group of inventions provides an improvement in the taste of feed for companion animals suffering from kidney failure or kidney disease.
