FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of carbon-graphite materials and can be used in the production of seals, gaskets, composite materials, catalysts, sorbents. Crushed natural flaked graphite is intercalated with sulfuric acid in the presence of an oxiding agent – hydrogen peroxide. Resulting powder is washed from sulfuric acid surplus, dried and heat-treated using a permanent-action fiber laser with a power density of 2⋅103–4⋅103 W/cm2 at a pressure of 1–1.001 atmosphere, and a wavelength of 1–1.064 mcm in a protective atmosphere of argon gas.
EFFECT: technical result is the improvement of the quality of thermal expansion and purity of thermally expanded graphite (TEG), simplification of the method, increase of its ecological compatibility and energy efficiency; it is possible to control the bulk density, the degree of thermal expansion and, accordingly, the operational properties of the resulting material due to the selection of the treatment time and the laser radiation power density.
