FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of graphitized carbon materials and products thereof, particularly, to production of composite low-density carbon heat insulating materials based on thermally expanded graphite (TEG), which can be used in vacuum or gas-filled furnaces. Proposed method comprises placing fusion mixture in gas-permeable mold, said fusion mixture containing oxidized graphite with bulk density of 0.3 to 0.5 g/cm3 produced by electrochemical oxidation in diluted water solutions of nitric acid and, subsequent thermal treatment in thermal impact conditions and carbonization at 1200° to 1600°C. Said fusion mixture is produced on resinating by 10 to 12%-solution of phenol-formaldehyde resin in acetone with subsequent drying at 60 to 70°C.
EFFECT: reduced heat conductivity factor of heat insulating material at exploitation temperatures (1000-3000°C), higher strength.
