SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for operating a rotary atomiser with which a coating material is applied onto an object. Spray head for a rotary atomiser for applying a coating material to an object has a bell plate which can be rotated about a rotational axis and comprises a discharge surface on which a coating material can be projected away from the bell plate. Further, there is a dispensing device which can blow a working fluid at least periodically as a transonic or supersonic flow onto the coating material coming from the bell plate. Dispensing device includes a Laval nozzle unit with a dispensing annular gap. Furthermore, a rotary atomiser with such a nozzle head is described.
EFFECT: enabling creation of a continuous transonic or supersonic curtain in which there is no turbulence due to the mixing of individual flows, making it possible to more accurately affect the sprayed jet.
