FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a process of the preparation of a diester of terephthalic acid by reacting terephthalic acid with at least one alcohol, wherein a) terephthalic acid is suspended in an alcohol in a dispersing vessel to form a preliminary suspension, b) the pre-suspension from the dispersing vessel is sent to the reactor and is reacted in the presence of an esterification catalyst to form a reaction slurry, c) the reaction slurry stream is withdrawn from the reactor, sent through a reactor outside the reactor and heated, and the heated reaction slurry is returned to the reactor, and d) the reaction water in the form of an aqueous alcoholic azeotrope is removed by distillation along with the vapor, the vapor is at least partially condensed, condensate is separated into an aqueous phase and an organic phase and the organic phase is at least partially recycled to the reactor.

EFFECT: method allows simple distribution of terephthalic acid into the reactor, provides for effective mixing of the reaction mixture and heat supply.
