FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the production of a diester of terephthalic acid by reacting terephthalic acid with at least one alcohol, the terephthalic acid is suspended in an alcohol in a dispersing vessel, the preliminary suspension from the dispersing vessel is sent to the reactor and reacted in the presence of an esterification catalyst, and the reaction water in the form of a water-alcohol azeotrope is removed by distillation along with the vapor, the vapors are at least partially condensed, the condensate is separated into an aqueous phase and an organic phase, and the organic phase is passed through a column in which the organic phase is countercurrently directed to at least a portion of the vapour, the organic phase is collected in the lower region of the column and at least partially sent to a dispersing vessel. Invention also relates to an apparatus for the preparation of diester of terephthalic acid which comprises a dispersing vessel which is connected to the reactor with a liquid passage, the contents of the reactor being suitable for pumping through a heat exchanger, a column that is connected to the reactor with the possibility of passing a vapor, and a condenser, which is connected to the column with the possibility of passing a vapor and with a phase separator with the possibility of passing a liquid, wherein said phase separator is connected to the column with the possibility of passing a liquid to direct the collected organic phase to the column, a collecting tray in the lower region of the column and a collection tank that is connected to the collecting tray and the dispersing vessel with the possibility of passing a liquid.

EFFECT: method for the preparation of a diester of terephthalic acid is provided.
