FIELD: technology of water and air purification.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing of superabsorbents used for water purification. Method of producing a superabsorbent for water purification involves preparation of a terpolymer based on styrene of acrylic acid. Method is characterized in that maleic anhydride is introduced as the third monomer in the copolymer, with a styrene : maleic anhydride : acrylic acid molar ratio of 1:1:1, reaction is carried out in a solution of acetone at a temperature of 50–71 °C, the initiator is azoisobutyronitrile in an amount of 0.2–0.25 % by weight of the initial monomers, copolymerization time is 3.5–4.5 hours. Resulting copolymer is crosslinked with a crosslinker – ethylene glycol in a molar ratio to maleic anhydride of 0.25:0.25, or diethylene glycol in a molar ratio to maleic anhydride of 0.25:0.25, or glycerol in a molar ratio to maleic anhydride of 0.25:0.165.

EFFECT: technical object of the invention is to obtain a superabsorbent with a high water purification coefficient.
