FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used as a means of maintaining the necessary moisture level of soils, as well as in the production of personal care products. A solution (5 wt %) of polysaccharide in a 2% aqueous solution of acetic acid is introduced into the aqueous suspension of silica gel. Chitosan or starch is used as polysaccharide. The resulting suspension is stirred for 20-30 minutes at room temperature. Sodium-potassium tartrate or ascorbic acid is then added in an amount of 0.2 wt % of the polysaccharide weight at a temperature of 18-30°C. Hydrogen peroxide is added with stirring in an amount of 0.3 wt % of the polysaccharide weight. The reaction mixture is kept under vigorous stirring for 15-30 minutes. Acrylamide is introduced into the reaction mixture in an amount of 10: 1 of the mass fraction to polysaccharide and it is maintained with stirring for 5 hours at a temperature of 40-50°C. The resulting gel is recovered from the reactor and dried at a temperature of 30-40°C.

EFFECT: increasing the amount of water absorbed during the operation of the composite polymer material and simplifying the technology of its production while maintaining the water absorption properties.
