FIELD: measurement technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a critical stress intensity factor determining methods for transverse shear, which is realized with cutting of a solid material. To the parallelepiped shaped sample a shear load is applied, which is created by longitudinal cutting of the sample with a cutter with a front angle equal to the given pair of "cutter – processed material" friction angle, which front face width and height exceeds the width b and thickness a of a cut layer, respectively, and the critical stress intensity factor KIIc is determined from the following relationship: where Psh.max is the maximum cutting force.
EFFECT: possibility to increase the critical stress intensity factor determining accuracy for transverse shear by giving the cutting force, id est, the shifting load position with an effect angle equal to zero.
