SUBSTANCE: cutting plate has a variable front angle, a main and minor cutting edges, a vertex and a chip shaving groove disposed on the front surface along the minor cutting edge, the interconnected surfaces of the groove and the front surface intersect at the main cutting edge to form a single edge, the chip shaving groove includes a flat surface located at a positive front angle, the front surface of the plate is formed with a constant main front angle. Main front corner is made negative, and the chip shaving groove is made with a cylindrical surface and a chip dividing edge and is located from the top at a distance of two thirds of the cut sheet.

EFFECT: stable chip breaking is achieved, an increase in the accuracy of the workpiece and a sharp decrease in the roughness of its treated surface by improving the removal of chips from the cutting zone by controlling the shape, the chip shrinkage ratio and the direction of the chip motion by means of an additional directed curl, removal of the build-up and an "influx" along the front surface of the cutting insert and in the plane of the cross section of the chips.
