SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the building materials industry, in particular to production of concrete. Method of preparation of sodium polyacrylate for introduction into the composition of a concrete mixture provides for soaking the pellets of sodium polyacrylate in water at a temperature of 15–40 °C, keeping them until swelling for 24–36 hours, followed by grinding until a gel-like mass is obtained. Variant of the method for preparing sodium polyacrylate for introduction into the concrete mixture comprises soaking the pellets of sodium polyacrylate in a 3 % aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide at a temperature of 15–40 °C, holding them until swelling for 24 or 36 hours, followed by grinding until a gel-like mass is obtained.
