FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgy, and specifically to the extra-furnace liquid steel processing in steel-teeming ladle. Device comprises a ladle with a lid in which an upper electrode is mounted to heat the metal melt with a direct-current arc, a bottom electrode with a current lead and a current source. Current lead is made in the form of a spiral that covers the ladle. Upper and bottom electrodes are designed with a possibility to switch them on alternately. Invention allows to stir the metal bath intensively due to the interaction of the internal electromagnetic field, generated by a current of dozens of kA, flowing through a liquid metal, with an electromagnetic field of several thousand ampere-turns, generated by a current, flowing in the current lead, that covers the ladle from the outside. When these forces interact, intense vertical and horizontal movement of the melt occurs, it helps to equalize the temperature and chemical composition of the metal throughout.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to stir the metal bath intensively.
