FIELD: test technology.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the predicting of the operability of irradiated steel structural elements in nuclear engineering, as well as to predicting the resource capability of newly developed steels for the VVER-type NPP reactors. Method for predicting the radiation resource of the steel of the VVER reactor body includes the production of Charpy impact samples from steel, accelerated irradiation of the portion of impact samples by the fast neutron flux to the fluence, which corresponds to the irradiation dose of steel for the projected service life of the reactor, determination of the critical embrittlement temperatures for unirradiated and irradiated samples and determination of the radiation resource of steel, the small size Charpy impact samples are made from steel with a variable length of one component and a notch in places with different contents of the variable component, and after accelerated irradiation and determination of critical embrittlement temperatures, the predicted radiation resource of steel is determined according to the critical fluence value for the given value of the critical embrittlement temperature as per the dependence of the critical embrittlement temperature on the fluence.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of forecasting the radiation resource of steel for the VVER-type reactor bodies.
