SUBSTANCE: print cartridge memory with a print material for the cartridge to be installed in printer (12), the printer comprising a printer controller, wherein memory (22) is provided to provide information exchange between cartridge (12) and the printer controller when the cartridge is installed in the printer. Moreover, storage device (22) comprises a first write-once and only then accessible memory for reading the memory location of first memory address (24) and a second write-once memory and then accessible only for reading the memory location to second memory address (26), and controller (36) for controlling the storage and retrieval of data in and out of said write-once and accessible then only for reading the memory cells, and wherein storage controller (36) controls the communication with the printer controller. Moreover, the memory location at first address (24) contains information for instructing the printer controller to write the printer identifier into the memory location at second address (26).
