FIELD: computer engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computing devices, namely to the processing of electronic documents. A method of searching for target strings of symbols that contain two or more parts relating to different layers of an electronic document comprises detecting two or more layers in an electronic document with the help of the computing device; processing of each of the detected layers to form a layer text representing one or more objects contained in the layer; combining the generated texts of the layers to form a combined text of an electronic document; and detecting, in the combined text of the electronic document, the target string of symbols corresponding to the specified string of symbols taking into account the specified search function.
EFFECT: technical result is an increase in the search efficiency of target strings of symbols in electronic documents consisting of two or more layers.
