SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electrical equipment and electric power engineering. Control unit (7) supplies symmetrical gating pulses to the thyristors (3 and 4). Depending on this angle value, consumed by the reactors (1 and 2) reactive power is changing. According to the harmonic effect on the network, such symmetrical control is equivalent to the ordinary static thyristor compensator (STC). One current half-wave flows through the thyristor, and the other is through the diode. Since the current one half-wave flows through the diode and the voltage drop across the diode is less than that on the thyristor, this allows to reduce the overall energy losses.
EFFECT: reduction of energy losses.
