FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to glass beads used for road marking. Method for coating montmorillonite and/or modified montmorillonite on glass beads involves the preparation of a montmorillonite (MMT) suspension by dispersing MMT in water at 30–80 °C at a content of 0.5–2 % MMT in suspension. Further, quaternary ammonium salts are added to the suspension for modification if a modified montmorillonite coating is applied. To the resulting MMT/water slurry, glass beads are introduced at a glass bead/MMT ratio of 1:1–1:4 with the following mixing. Transfer the resulting mixture to a vat in which the glass beads are distributed, followed by their drying at 80–100 °C. Particle size of the glass beads ranges from 150–700 mcm.
EFFECT: increased wear resistance, increased time during which high retroreflection remains.
