SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a device for producing collars (14) of packets (10) for cigarettes, wherein preferably continuous material web (23) of packaging material for collars (14) is conveyed along a transport path (collar path 36), wherein long the transport path, one or several processing stations are arranged for processing material web (23) with respect to one or several characteristic properties of collars (14) and where in a processing station, collars (14) are severed from material web (23) by applying a transversely directed severing cut.
EFFECT: invention is characterised in that material web (23) for collars (14) is processed in the processing station or stations such that at least some collars (14) differ from one another with respect to at least one characteristic property.
