FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to experimental aerodynamics of aircraft, in particular to the study of the spatial flow pattern of aircraft models in an air tunnel, and can be used for static and dynamic tests of aircraft models in air tunnels of low subsonic speeds. Method consists in that silk threads or cotton threads with thickness of 0.1–0.01 mm are attached to the areas of the model surface of an aircraft using glue or adhesive tape with polystyrene balls fixed at their ends with a diameter of 0.004÷0.006 m and specific gravity γ=10÷20 kg/m3, which are held by means of nodules tied to the free ends of the threads. In case of continuous flow around the model in the flow of an air tunnel, the threads with balls indicate the direction of local flow velocities adjacent to the surfaces under study, or are located beyond them in the direction of flow. With detachment flow character in an investigated region, the foam plastic balls completely repeat the volumetric vortex motion of the air flow above or behind the investigated surface, drawing together with the threads the volumetric structure of the vortex.
EFFECT: technical result consists in obtaining a visual picture of a spatial flow around the surfaces of aircraft models in the flow of an air tunnel in the form of visual information on the volumetric structure of the vortex system on the surface of models, its origin, development and destruction.
