FIELD: experimental aerodynamics.
SUBSTANCE: method for studying aerodynamic models in an air-droplet flow is proposed, in which, in order to obtain characteristics of droplet settling from the incoming air-droplet flow similar to the investigated aerodynamic surface, the nose part of the model is deflected, and the tail part of the model is installed along the incoming air-droplet flow. To implement the method, an aerodynamic model with a shortened tail section and a nose section truncated along the chord is used, while it is configured to deflect the nose section relative to the tail section, the nose section of the model is truncated by 10-15% of the chord of the studied aerodynamic surface of the full-size model, and the tail part of the model is made with a longitudinal dimension of 30-50% of the chord of the investigated aerodynamic surface of the full-size model.
EFFECT: reducing the influence on the velocity field in the working part when studying shortened aerodynamic models in an air-droplet flow in order to improve the control of the parameters of the air-droplet flow, increase the allowable size of the models, and also exclude the possibility of active ice growth on the tail part of the model.
