FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for purifying a crude product containing a nonionic iodinated dimeric X-ray contrast agent. Method includes step i) passing a solution of the crude product across membrane (M1) such that monomeric compound impurities and salts cross the membrane (permeate, P1) and the nonionic iodinated dimeric X-ray contrast agent does not pass through the membrane (retentate, R1). As a result, a purified dimeric X-ray contrast agent is obtained whose purity is at least 98%. Monomeric impurities are compounds with a molecular weight from 435 to 900 Da, and membrane (M1) has a cut-off size from 950 to 1200 Da.
EFFECT: proposed method allows to efficiently and with high yield remove monomeric impurities from a crude nonionic iodinated dimeric X-ray contrast agent without the use of chromatography and crystallisation.
