FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: device is proposed for demonstrating and studying the motion of a mathematical pendulum with pitchings of its suspension, containing a pendulum in the form of a load with a suspension connected to a source of its longitudinal mechanical oscillations. Suspension in the form of a toroid made by rotating a generatrix around the axis of the toroid, which lies in a plane of this circle and does not intersect it, in the form of a hollow ring of a solid optically transparent material, which has a low coefficient of friction in combination with a metallic material. Load is made in the form of a metal ball placed in an inner cavity of said hollow ring of the toroid and freely moving in the ring. Two supports rigidly fixed on an outer surface of two diametrically opposed toroid sections and having pivot axis of the supports, coaxial with each other in a horizontal plane passing through a rotation axis of the toroid in a vertical position of the ring of the toroid, and enabling the rotation of the toroid on the axes of these supports by an angle of 360°. Source of mechanical oscillations connected to said supports has the ability to ensure a reciprocal movement of supports in the vertical plane up and down when the toroid is oriented in the vertical plane. When using the presented pendulum, methods are proposed for studying the dependence of the stability threshold of an inverted pendulum on the frequency of its support oscillations, and also for demonstrating a phenomenon of parametric resonance.

EFFECT: device is proposed for demonstrating and studying the motion of the mathematical pendulum.
