SUBSTANCE: invention relates to digital image processing. Method involves: generation of reference binary images of air objects on the basis of 3D-models, formation of reference external loop descriptors for these images, normalization of external loop descriptors, creation of a base of reference external loop descriptors, which is subsequently used in recognition of the observed air object, and decision-making that involves receipt and analog-to-digital conversion of the image signal of each frame, detection of the observed object in the frame and formation of its binary image, formation of an external loop descriptor, normalization of the external loop descriptor, determination of the difference in the normalized descriptor of the observed image with the standardized descriptors of reference images, determination of the reference descriptor with the least measure of difference, determination of the class of the observed air object.

EFFECT: improvement of the accuracy of determining the class of the observed air object.
