FIELD: aviation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to aviation, in particular to a method for estimating a relevant point on a curve for detecting an anomaly of an engine. Claimed curve displays the change in time, depending on the physical parameters of the engine, measured by the sensors on the specified engine. Method is performed by a computing device associated with the first information storage means. Method includes selecting a profile stored in the first information storage means, applying a filter of the selected profile to the specified curve, determination of a set of characteristic points of the specified filtered curve and a binary code, each component of which encodes the direction of change of two consecutive characteristic points belonging to the specified set of characteristic points, comparing a certain code and a code of the selected profile, depending on the indicated comparison, an estimate of the relevant point on the specified curve.

EFFECT: automatic tracking of relevant points without involving experts is provided.
