SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medical equipment. Devices and methods for filling a syringe are proposed, for example, for use during pneumatic retinopexy or other medical procedures. In one embodiment of the invention, the system comprises a housing with a gas canister having an outlet port connected to a fluid flow path extending from the discharge port to the syringe cavity. Syringe comprises a cylinder that can be installed in the syringe cavity such that the inlet of the cylinder is connected to the fluid flow path. Housing is provided with a drive for selectively opening the outlet of the canister with gas to deliver the gas contained therein along a liquid flow path into the inner cavity of the cylinder such that the piston moves from the distal position to the proximal position.
