SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a check valve with an inertial mass which is fitted in the base of the production tubing and above the progressive cavity pump (PCP) of an oil well, said valve preventing the hydrostatic column within the production tubing from falling at the moment at which the artificial rise of said column stops as a result of the PCP stopping.

EFFECT: preventing this phenomenon from occurring prevents the PCP from rotating in the direction opposite to that of its normal rotation and from becoming blocked by particulate material deposited therein.
