Present invention relates to a compound represented by the formula I which is not 4-(4-(tert-butyl)phenyl)butanal, 4-(4-isopropylphenyl)butanal, 4-(4-isobutylphenyl)butanal, 4-(4-(tert-butyl)phenyl)-3-methylbutanal. Invention relates to a preliminary fragrance that is suitable for the release of a formula I compound, wherein the precursor is preferably the aminal and/or enamine of the formula I compound. Invention relates to a perfume composition comprising a compound represented by the formula I and/or the aforementioned preliminary fragrant substance. Invention relates to a personal care product or home care product comprising a compound of formula I or a perfume composition. Invention relates to a method for imparting flavor characteristic of a perfume composition to a perfume composition with a refined odor or a consumer product, the method comprising the step of adding to it an aryl-substituted butanal compound represented by the formula I. Above compound has a greatly reduced tendency to be activated by enzymes, decomposed into its benzoic acid derivatives incubation with liver cells isolated from rats.
EFFECT: this compound is suitable for addition on the basis that it is indeed much less decomposed into its benzoic acid derivative as compared to Lilial™.
