Image compression method comprises an upsampling step on which a sampling operation is performed to thin out the values of the pixels of the compressed images, wherein the decimation of the brightness values of the pixels of the compressed images is performed either by excluding odd columns and rows from the odd frames, even-numbered columns and rows, or by eliminating even-numbered columns and rows from odd frames, and even-numbered odd-numbered columns and rows, or by deleting odd-numbered columns and even-numbered rows from odd frames, even-numbered columns and rows, or by eliminating even-numbered columns and rows from odd frames, and even-numbered odd-numbered columns and rows, or by deleting odd-numbered columns and even-numbered rows from odd frames.

EFFECT: four-fold compression of the video sequence due to a twofold decrease in the pixel size and resolution of video frames along the horizontal and vertical spatial coordinates, as well as restoration of pixel size and resolution of compressed video frames due to a twofold increase in the pixel size of compressed video frames.
