FIELD: cooling.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an apparatus for cooling and/or low temperature liquefying, a working fluid containing helium or consisting of pure helium. Device (1) comprises a working circuit provided with compressor station (2) and refrigerating compartment (3). Compressor station (2) comprises one or more compression stages, each of which uses one or more compressors that comprise compressor wheel (12) rigidly connected to spindle (25) which is rotatably mounted on bearings (5). Spindle (25) of each compressor (12) is rotated by output shaft (6) of motor (4) by means of gear (7) located in mechanical casing (8) which contains lubricating oil (9).
EFFECT: said device is characterized in that the interior of mechanical housing (8) comprises a gas medium consisting of a gas mixture having an average molar mass that is less than the molar mass of air.
