FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for the synthesis of 1,2-dichloroethane from ethylene and chlorine by low-temperature direct chlorination of ethylene in the presence of a catalyst in a reactor under conditions in which the synthesized 1,2-dichloroethane is condensed, and ethylene and chlorine are gaseous, and the stoichiometric ratio between ethylene and chlorine in the reactor is set such that ethylene is present in an excess amount, wherein a stream of liquid 1,2-dichloroethane is removed from the reactor, which is partially evaporated in an evaporator. Invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out said method, comprising a reactor configured to set the stoichiometric ratio between ethylene and chlorine such that ethylene is present in an excess amount. Moreover, the reactor has an outlet for liquid 1,2-dichloroethane, which is partially evaporated in the evaporator.
EFFECT: longer service life of the catalyst and high degree of purity of the resulting gaseous 1,2-dichloroethane.
