FIELD: chemical engineering. SUBSTANCE: dichloroethane is produced in reactor having two upright columns - reaction column 1 and circulation column 2 - communicating to each other in their top and bottom parts. The two columns are filled with liquid dichloroethane and form vertical closed circuit. Zone 5 of column 1 receives preset amounts of gaseous chlorine and ethylene along with recycled liquid dichloroethane and, by aid of stimulating means, active circulation of liquid dichloroethane through reactor circuit is developed. Circulation of dichloroethane through zone 5 proceeds with such a flow rate, which is not less than that calculated in conformance with proposed relationship taking into account preset flow rate for chlorine, heat effect of ethylene chlorination, heat capacity of liquid dichloroethane, difference in boiling temperatures of dichloroethane at pressure on the level of dichloroethane vapor withdrawal (zone 8) and on the level of upper border of zone 5 where reaction occurs. Method provides uniform dissolving and mixing of chlorine and ethylene in liquid dichloroethane and sharply activates heat removal in zone 5 owing to which ethylene chlorination reaction proceeds in liquid-phase dichloroethane and evaporation of the latter begins above zone 5.
