SUBSTANCE: invention relates to two variants of a method for reducing or preventing the growth of microorganisms in a hydrocarbon containing system, including a water injection system, a hydrocarbon recovery system, or a hydrocarbon production system. In this case, one of the process variants comprises the introduction of an effective amount of a diphenyliodonium salt in a water injection system, a hydrocarbon recovery system, or a hydrocarbon production system.

EFFECT: these diphenyliodonium salts can be effectively used as inhibitors of hydrogen sulfide formation and as biocides in oil field fluids.
