SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to power supply lines for vehicles. Ground-based power supply system for an unguided electric vehicle comprises a contact conductor path that can supply voltage, a zero conductive path designed to return current, first and second voltage sources and vehicle speed measuring means. Zero conductive path runs parallel to the contact path. Contact path consists of a plurality of rectangular segments, electrically insulated and arranged end-to-end with each other. First voltage source provides a low voltage, and second source provides a high voltage. Each segment is connected through a selector to the first or second voltage source. Selection device obtains the instantaneous speed of the vehicle, then compares the measured speed with the threshold speed and controls the selector based on the comparison results. Also disclosed is a method of using a ground-based power supply system.
