FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metal processing by pressure and can be used in manufacture of trunks with a stepped outer surface. After heat treatment of an original workpiece to a predetermined level of strength, a tubular workpiece with lead, deformable and powered parts is made from it by cutting. Workpiece is clamped between the retaining and powered centers of a radial clamping machine. Tubular workpiece is crimped by dies of the radial clamping machine, made with a lead-in part in the form of sections having length l1, l2, l3, l4 and tilt angle respectively α1 = 8°, α2 = 5°, α3 = 3°, α4 = 0.5°. Forging of the barrel with inlets and allowances for final processing is obtained. Entry part of the workpiece is made of a cylindrical conical shape with the diameter of a cylindrical section and a distance from the beginning of the cylindrical section to the end of the entry part, which is determined by the formulas given.
EFFECT: as a result, the conditions for gripping a tubular workpiece by striking a radial clamping machine are ensured and the ejection force of the workpiece at the beginning of forging is significantly reduced.
